Five terror suspects have been charged in a Mombasa court with stealing rifles loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition.
Mohammed Mwichande Kombo, Mohamed Salim, Kasim Ali, Mohamed Abdalla and Ali Omar appeared before Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti to answer to charges of robbery with violence.
The five who are suspected of working with the ISIS terror group are also linked to the Nyali Military Barracks attack that took place on November 2, 2014.
The suspects are accused of robbing two police officers of two G3 rifles worth 115, 000 shillings loaded with rounds of ammunitions at Bondeni, Mombasa County on October 2, 2015.
Omari, Kassim and Abdalla are accused of being members of the al-Shabaab militia group, while Mwichande and Salim are accused of being in illegal possession of four guns.
The suspects also have other criminal cases before the court, which the Director of Public Prosecution has sought to merge.
In addition, they are charged with holding a meeting to plan how to launch a terror attack at an unknown place and time within the country.
Magistrate Oguti released them on a 1 million shilling bond each with a surety of a similar amount.
Mwichande and Salim were arrested at their Majengo hideout in Shikamoo on January 4, 2016 while Ahmed, Omar and Abdalla were arrested at the Busia Border on March 12, 2016 while en-route to Uganda after escaping a police dragnet at their Majengo hideout.
The accused, however, declined to continue with any court proceedings in absence of their lawyer Yusuf Abubakar, who was not present in court.
The case will be mentioned on August 22, 2016.
