The nation is mourning the demise of Kitui West MP and former Minority Leader Francis Nyenze. Until his death, Nyenze was among the most powerful politicians from Ukambani.

The former lawmaker caused a storm in National Super Alliance (NASA) when he threatened to lead the Kamba nation from the political outfit if the former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka was shortchanged in the race to the nation’s top seat. Here are five things you didn’t know about him.

He was an alumnus of UoN

The deceased was a holder of University of Nairobi for his degree in Architecture Design and Development. He joined the institution after completing his secondary education at Kagumo Boys High School in Nyeri County

He died at the age of 60

The vocal politician passed on at the age of 60 while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital before his body was transferred to Lee Funeral home.

He was married to one wife

Nyenze was married to one woman with whom he bore three children (one boy and two girls)

He was a minister twice

Nyenze was appointed Minister for environment by President Moi in 1997 and later taken to the Ministry of Heritage and Sports after the reshuffle in 2001.

He was first elected in 1997

Nyenze was first elected KANU ticket in 1997 to represent Kitui West Constituency.
