A five-year-old child was on Sunday morning saved by the ‘Nyumba Kumi’ initiative from continuous torture by his aunt.
This is after neighbours reported the matter to the chief through their chairman.
The serious wound on the young boy’s body, inflicted by his aunt Ms Esther Ayieko, attracted the wrath of neighbours who reported to their ‘Nyumba Kuma’ chairman.
The child who has been living with his stepmother, father and aunt at Iyabe location in Kisii South sub-county has been subjected to continuous torment by the aunt who has been taking care of him when the stepmother is away for work.
The chairman for ‘Nyuma Kumi’ Elias Ombiro reported the matter to the area Chief Joseph Mosumari, who promptly visited the house where he found the abused child.
The child was taken to Iyabe sub-county hospital for medical examination while the aunt and the stepmother were taken to Kerina police station to record statements.
Speaking to reporters at the home during the arrest, the chief said the matter was serious.
He also added that a similar case is still under investigations after an eleven-year-old child committed suicide for allegedly being tortured by a caretaker.
“We are warning all the parents who are mistreating their children by giving them heavy jobs and we will ensure they face the law," he added.
The child’s father divorced with the mother while the aunt is a sister of the father.
