Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa could be in trouble over the death of a 74-year-old man working for an auctioneering firm that was sent to check on the federation’s property.
According to The Standard, Mwendwa is accused of hitting the late Leonard Munyua Mungai with a rungu at the FKF offices at Kasarani FIFA Goal Project.
The old man is said to have been part of the team hired by Moran Auctioneers concerning a Sh4.8 million debt that FKF owes Mirema Apartments Hotel.
However, the football boss has denied involvement in the altercation and blamed former officials of the federation whom he accused of planning to tarnish his name.
“I was not even there when the auctioneers came and I am surprised you are trying to link me to the matter,” said Mwendwa as quoted by The Standard.
But a witness has said it was the FKF boss who hit the deceased together with Patrick Olindi, Moses Mwaura, Wycliffe Musindi and Nicholas Ndambuki.
“I saw Mwendwa hit themzee(Munyua) while armed with arungu. He turned therunguon me when I tried to shield themzee. I have told the police that it is Mwendwa who led the attack on us,” said 26-year-old Olindi as quoted by the publication.
Munyua later died in hospital two days after the August 1 incident.
Police reports from medical examination show that he sustained injuries in his head, neck and upper limbs.
