Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa has come to the defence of Harambee Stars technical bench following accusations of favouritism in their squad selection for the Cecafa senior challenge tourney.

Speaking on KTN's Zilizala Viwanjani show on Monday, Mwendwa said it was wrong for people to politicise the issue, adding that even great footballing countries like Spain always bring on board specific players and not all of them.

"This is an issue that we should not be debating. When you look at countries like England and Spain, you realise that not all the teams can have all their players on the national team. So it's just a matter of waiting for your turn,” said Mwendwa.

“We have over six hundred players in our league but we only need about twenty for this assignment, we cannot bring all of them on board. We have a new coach whom we should support and being that he's a foreigner will help address this issue of team favouritism,” he added.

A section of Bandari FC fans raised concern last week after none of the team's players received a call-up to the national squad despite a stellar performance.
