Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa has admitted that there's a lot of work that needs to be done at the Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret town for it to host the African Nations Championships (CHAN) games.
Kipchoge Keino is among the four stadia expected to be used for CHAN games that will be held in the country beginning January 11, 2018.
Speaking when led an inspection of the stadium by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) delegation, Mwendwa, however, expressed optimism all will be set for part of the games to be played in Eldoret stadium.
"Construction works here are quite behind comparing to the other sites and we have insisted in the need to accelerate the work since there's a lot that need to be done," Mwendwa said.
"Despite the fact that we still have most of work to be done here, we are optimistic and contractors have all assured me that they will beat the dateline of having the stadium complete one month to the start of the tournament," he added.
The FKF boss further reaffirmed their commitment towards ensuring Eldoret town hosts part of the CHAN action.
"We've seen how this stadium is always fully packed during major athletics events and we want football to be hosted here because we know the locals enthusiasm for sports," said Mwendwa.
Apart from Kiochoge Keino, other stadia picked to host CHAN 2018 games are Nyanyo and Moi Sports International Center Kasarani in Nairobi, Meru's Kinoru and Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
