The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has vowed to ensure that soccer talents at the grassroots are identified early enough and developed in a bid to channel them to national soccer side Harambee Stars.
Through chairman Nick Mwendwa, the federation said on Sunday that there is a lot of untapped talent in at the grassroots which they hope to fully exploit even as they look forward to building a formidable national team.
"Plenty of talented youth now have a platform to practice and showcase their talents and abilities courtesy of this tournament. We will continue developing grassroots football and scouting for skilled players to draft into the national team and we are grateful to our partners Safaricom for being part of this," said Mwendwa during the Chapa Dimba finals North Eastern edition at the Garissa University on Sunday.
In the finals, Al Hayat from Wajir secured the bragging rights as the North Eastern region invincibles after pipping Ifpro from Garissa 7-6 in a penalty shootout after a 3-all draw in regular time.
As a result, Al Hayat pocketed Ksh 200,000 aside from qualifying for the Chapa Dimba national finals in March this year. Ifpro, on the other hand, walked away with Ksh 100,000 as runners-up.
Over 300 games were played in the North Eastern region beginning November 18 that brought on board about 102 teams.
