National team side Harambee stars will have to wait longer before using 60,000 seater capacity National Stadium, Kasarani for their matches.
The venue for the upcoming friendly matches against Equatorial Guinea and Swaziland slated for May 25 and 28 will now be Machakos Stadium in Machakos county.
FKF’s PR Officer, Barry Atieno is upbeat that the stadium will be undergoing maintenance after hosting the historic match between Gor Mahia and English Championship side Hull City as well as a continental club championship fixture between Gor and USM Alger.
“We have asked for an alternative venue since Kasarani is still being assessed after hosting Gor Mahia matches. We have settled for Machakos Stadium because it meets the required standards of CAF,” Atieno said.
With matches coming up for the national team side against African middleweights, it would have been a good idea to have Kasarani in the best condition possible to host the matches as it is the most suited with great capacity that will accommodate more fans who would love to watch the action first hand.
With AFC Leopards involved in a heated disagreement with FKF, after the decision to cancel the Mashemeji Derby that was supposed to be staged at Bukhungu stadium, it remains to be seen how well and how fast the stadium’s turf quality will be rectified to have it in the best condition possible.
