Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa has  said that the federation will pay up its dues to the Sportpesa Premier League (SPL) as the facilitation fees for the promotion of two extra teams.

“We assured the KPL that we will pay them 24 million shillings for the two additional teams we had promoted to the league and we will do that. Kenyans have dealt with untruthful federations before that they believe FKF cannot produce 24 million but I want to assure that we are different,” he said.

He also revealed the promotion/relegation criteria for the 2017 season and onwards, declaring that the bottom two at the end of the season will be relegated from the premier league.

“Previously we have been accused of not stating it clearly beforehand so I want to state today that the bottom two teams in the 18 – team premier league will be relegated automatically the third last team there will go into a playoff with the third team in the NSL to determine the other side that will play in the premier league. That will be the order henceforth,” he added.
