Led by Flamingo MCA, Moses Gichangi, the residents say that the informal settlement has been neglected for a long time and the county government has shown little effort to address the challenges affecting the residents.

“We have held consultations with Nakuru County government over the issue of sewer but nothing is coming forth,” alleged Gichangi.

Gichangi says that a looming crisis is imminent in the area.

“Chances of cholera outbreak are imminent as the poor state of sewer is discouraging,” said Gichangi.

The civic leader asked health workers to be alert and urged local residents to observe good hygiene.

He also warned those hawking food to stop to contain outbreak of cholera.

“Food hawking should stop in this area to avert outbreak of cholera. Residents should boil water and cook food well,” said Gichangi.

The residents’ outcry comes at a time when at least nine people have died in Nakuru following outbreak of cholera.

Gichangi further claimed that a number of children under five and elderly have lost their lives due to poor sanitation.

“Flamingo Ward has been hardest hit by the sewage menace where a number of children and the elderly have died due to poor sanitation,” said Gichangi.

Speaking on Wednesday at Flamingo Ward, Gichangi urged county government to move swiftly to address the looming crisis.
