[Photo: the-star.co.ke]Heavy downpours are expected to hit large parts of Western, Rift Valley and Central regions on Thursday.The weatherman said this could result in flooding on Thursday and Friday."Ponds and large bodies of moving water may suddenly appear in unlikely places. People should also avoid wading through these waters when they are one-foot high," Director of Meteorological Department Peter Ambenje said on Wednesday as quoted by the Star. Ambeje said the rains were expected to begin Wednesday evening around the South Rift Valley region and parts of the Aberdares Ranges.They would then extend on Thursday to Western Kenya, Central Rift Valley, the Aberdares and Mt Kenya highlands, adds the Star"A similar situation may be experienced on Friday [tomorrow] but may be confined to fewer areas around Mt Elgon," Ambenje further told the Star.He said the most affected areas will be Kericho, Bomet, Kisii, parts of Narok and parts of the Aberdares. The others are Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Laikipia, parts of Samburu, Migori and Nakuru."Residents in all areas are advised to be on the lookout for flash floods as some areas, which were previously dry, may receive heavy rainfall during the late afternoon and the night," he said.
