Speaking this morning in his office, Nakuru police boss Bernard Kioko said that some criminals have taken the advantage of the ongoing hawkers eviction to commit crimes in the name of protesting the eviction.

Kioko said that criminal elements have been harassing residents of Nakuru town during the running battles between hawkers and the police.

“Genuine hawkers must come clean and uproot all the criminals from their midst because they know them well. Cases of pick pocketing have increased at the places where hawkers were moved to and this is because some bad elements followed the hawkers to their new location and they use any little opportunity to steal from people,” said Kioko.

He added, “We have arrested some of them but a few of them are still hiding among the hawkers but I hope they will be flashed out.”

Armed police officers are still camped at the Nyayo gardens ready to deal with hawkers who have been protesting their eviction from the CBD .The protests have however subsided since yesterday.
