Traders are counting losses after rain waters caused havoc at Tala market in Matungulu, Machakos County on Tuesday.

Transport and businesses were crippled as traders closed shops due to the waters which flooded the market due to the heavy downpour pondering the region.

The affected businessmen led by the market's chairlady Ann Katile blamed the incident on poor drainage in the market which they said led to the flooding and destruction of their wares and property.

Trader Norah Kasiva said the situation had been the trend for as long us they (traders) at the market can remember.

"We have complained to the Machakos County Government until we have no more strength left to continue complaining," Kasiva said.

Transport was paralyzed in Tala town after rain waters flooded the single bus park making it difficult for public service vehicles, mostly the 14 seater matatus to operate.

Commuters were forced to wait for hours for the waters to subdue in order to board the vehicles.

The county government is yet to repair the drainage systems in the market despite empty promises for over three years.
