The Kenya electoral body IEBC is counting losses after heavy floods destroyed its offices in Kajiado county .
The chairman Wafula Chebukati and other Commissioners have visited Isinya to assess damage caused by floods at their offices in Kajiado East.
“ Chairman @WChebukati & Commissioners assess damage caused by floods at IEBC Isinya Office, Kajiado East, in mid March. They later paid a courtesy call on the Deputy County Commissioner at Isinya.” IEBC administration wrote on their twitter page.
As a result, several documents were damaged by the ongoing ravaging waters which sneaked into the offices.
The Iebc commission is assessing the damage to establish the extent of the loss, they reported that they are still quantifying the extend of the damage and will issue a comprehensive statement later in the day .
This comes after the Interior Ministry issued a statement confirming that the number of displaced people is at 222,456 and that at least 32 of Kenya’s 47 counties had been affected by the floods.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of possible landslides in areas where the soil has been saturated by rain and floodwater.
Kenya authorities have distributed food worth millions of shillings and medicine to prevent and contain an outbreak of water-borne diseases.
