Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates in four schools in Kitui county had to wait for hours before they could start the examinations after the vehicle carrying the papers was swept away by floods following the heavy down pour in the region.

The vehicle was swept away after the banks of Karura in Mwingi Central broke.

A secondary school principal and the driver escaped unhurt after the vehicle was overpowered by the fast moving water in the early morning incident.

A section of residents came to the rescue of the invigilators who were transporting Math and Biology exam papers.

Confirming the incident, Kitui County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich said that there was a rescue team which was mobilized quickly to save the officers who were in the vehicle.

He also said that the ministry of education and national government provided alternative means of transport to the other invigilators

Area MCA James Musyoka said that a similar occurrence forced the officers to ask for the airlifting of the examinations to different schools in the county.

The heavy rains pounding different region have caused havoc and displaced several Kenyans from their homes.
