Over 10000 people are at a risk of contracting waterborne diseases due to broken sewer lines at Kaptwembwo , Gilanis and Mwariki following floods on Tuesday in the area.

The floods saw over 1000 families Spend the night in the cold as they lost property worth thousands of shillings.

They attributed the lack of water lee way to construction by some rich businessmen who has grabbed the water passages.

Priscilla Njambi said they were trapped in their houses for hours after the evening downpour and were forced to swim after the water levels became too high.

“All our caravats were sealed by the businessmen who have set up flats especially in Koinage area. We were rescued by well-wishers who had to swerve their way into our house and carry the water inside. It is impossible for the water which mainly comes from London estate to flow back to Ndarugo river,.” Said Njambi.

The irate residents are now demanding for the immediate demolition of the flats in the area which have been a major problem.

“Why should three whole estates suffer because of selfish greed from the city engineers?” posed Elvis Kinyanjui.

They are now demanding for compensation from the county government, citing that they lost property worth millions of shillings.

Contacted on Phone, area MP Samuel Arama said he was not aware of the floods.

“I’m not aware because I’m in Nairobi. No one in the constituency has told me,” Said Arama.
