[Photo|hivisasa.com]Fly Silverstone Airline has commenced two daily flights from Kisumu to Wilson Airport International Airport to tap into the vast demand of air travel along the route.Other airlines plying the route include Kenya Airways, Fly 540, Jambo Jet and Reliance Air.Speaking in Kisumu, Captain Somo Mohammed, Fly Silverstone Managing Director said that the flight brings faster and cheaper flights along the route besides opening up Kisumu for tourism and business.Passengers, he said shall pay Sh4,500 one way hence offering the airline a competitive edge in the swarming market.Passengers using the airline's 50 carrier Dash 8 aircraft, Mohammed said shall avoid the hectic traffic jam and rigorous checks at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The airline made its maiden flight today to Kisumu from Wilson Airport.Mohammed also revealed that the airline will also fly to Ukunda to serve the coastal market.He added that plans were underway to launch direct flights from Kisumu to Mombasa.Kisumu County Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o said the entrance of the new airline is set to boost business travel and reposition Kisumu as a regional economic hub.This, he added shall further trim down the costs of air transport along the route.The increased interest in air transport to the lake region, he said was a growth indicator asking the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) to modernize and expand Kisumu International Airport to handle larger aircrafts.
