Cord leader Raila Odinga has been urged to direct his energies towards pushing for a proper audit of the voters register in order to avoid incidents of malpractice during the next general election.
Former Kitutu Masaba MP Abuya Abuya has said that after pushing for removal of IEBC commissioners, Odinga should now focus on the voters register as a measure of ensuring the next elections are credible.
“I went through the recommendations of 2013 Supreme Court ruling and one of the major issues that were contested was the voter register. This is the major issue that Odinga should put more focus on,” said Abuya.
Abuya urged Odinga not to indulge more in finding new IEBC commissioners, but try and ensure that the voters register is intact as a way of avoiding a repeat of the contention as witnessed in 2013.
“He should put his concentrating not on who should be the commissioners but how to do a proper audit on the election voter register. This is what has been an issue of contention and we do not want any serious complaints about the register,” added Abuya.
THe former lawmaker stated that IEBC secretariat should be put to task to release a single register that is acceptable across the political divide.
“Mr. Odinga started this and he must complete it. What is important is that we have the secretariat and we need a single register that is acceptable across all political divide,” he said.
The ODM party leader was on the front-line in pushing for the removal of electoral commissioners a mission which was concluded when the current body announced it was ready to vacate office
