Peace actors in Uasin Gishu county have told aspirants eyeing various elective positions in the August polls to focus on selling their development agendas to the electorate when the campaign period begins.

Led by the Uasin Gishu County Peace Forum chairman Mjr (Rtd) John Seii, the actors urged the aspirants to avoid engaging in personal attacks to their competitors.

Speaking to the press in Eldoret, Wednesday, Seii noted that by aspirants focus on selling their manifestos, the campaigns will be peaceful.

"We want politicians to move away from the campaigns of personal attacks and instead tell voters what they intend to do for them if elected.

This will lessen friction and ensure a peaceful campaign period," noted Seii.

Similar sentiments were shared by the Uasin Gishu Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini who also asked politicians to avoid utterances that might cause tensions, divisions and hatred amongst the locals.

"We want politicians to engage in responsible campaigns and as peace actors in this county we will not keep quite when they make statements that threat our peoples unity and peace," said Sheikh Bini.
