Chania raised concerned over bar owners who sell liquor to already intoxicated persons or illicit liquor that is not authorized by Kenya Bureau of Standard (KEBS) alleging that it results to accidents and deaths thereby resulting into more orphans.

The bar owners had been sensitized a few weeks ago by the KEBS and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) where they were issued with free Validators to detect counterfeit as opposed to valid products.

She said that in partnership with the area police they will be on the look out to bar owners and closure of stripping clubs which is a major threat not only in crime but increase of HIV/AIDS that is highly manifested in Kiambu.

Chania revealed that youth are the most affected people in drugs and Thika has recorded 75% increase in immorality with Malindi being the leading town in Kenya in drugs.

She said that Thika is the second town in Kenya in terms of promiscuity where the numbers of sex works increases by day.

She termed drug abuse as a national disaster second to terrorism that if not taken seriously, the youth will be no more come 2030.

Madam who is also the coordinator of Thika Rehabilitation Centre said that most of the drug addicts are youth and she has two secondary students rehabilitated in the centre already.

She added that drug addicts are radicalized before being recruited into terrorism thus the only way to tame terrorism is to begin by curbing drug abuse. Gladys Chania was speaking on Friday in Thika town.
