Pilau is a favourite kiswahili culture meal that is served at most gatherings. Pilau originates from a Persian word pilav or pilaw. The pilau rice cooking technique is found throughout the Middle East and West Asia. Pilau was brought to Africa by enslaved Africans to the Americas. It is made of a variety of mixtures that has made it hard for a majority of people to cook it despite loving its taste. Today we we are going to learn how to cook a delicious pilau;

Ingridients;

½ kg of Bonless meat.

2 Carrots( cubed).

2 cups of Rice (preferably  pishori) .  

1 large green pepper (diced).

2-3 garlic cloves ( crushed).

1 small piece of ginger(pounded).

Tomato paste (450g).

Freshly grounded pilau masala.

Cooking oil clean water.

2 large onions(chopped).

Steps in Cooking a delicious Pilau meal. 

1. Hit a cooking oil in a small pot, add pounded ginger and stir. Add beef and stir. Add salt then cover the pot and let the beef cook in the stew under low heat pressure it favors.

2. Take a larger sufuria, hit some cooking oil then add onions and stir for 1-2 minutes.

3. Add pounded ginger and let it cook for another 1-2 minutes or until the onions turn brown. Continue stirring it in a diced peppers and diced carrots and let them cook till the carrots soften.

4.Add tomato paste to the mixture (two teaspoons).

5. Add three tablespoons of pilau masala to the mixture.

6. Add beef followed by hot water (to cook the beef) then cover the pot with a lid and let it simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour until the meat is very tender.

7. To the beef, add in two cups of rice and four cups of water. Cover your sufuria and let your pilau cook under a moderate heat till the water evaporates.

Note: Frequently stirring will help to avoid rice from sticking at the bottom of sufuria.

8. When ready, Remove the bulb of garlic from the rice, and serve the pilau immediately.
