Despite Kenya having hundreds of different churches, most of them stand-outs and can easily be told apart from the other.
Apart from convening their worship congregations on Saturdays and their peculiar style of singing, the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) is also widely known for its strict doctrines on diet. Below are some of the foods the Church advises its members against indulging in:
Coca-Cola
Despite being the world's favorite drink, the SDA church advises its members not to partake the coca-cola drink.
The reasons they give is that the drink contains caffeine which is addictive and also has high levels of sugar which can snowball into sugar related ailments.
SDA schools for instance Kamagambo Adventist Complex don't sell this drink in its canteens. It stocks all other varieties of Soda but not Coca-cola.
Red-meat
When someone tells you that they don't eat meat, it is always very easy to ask them whether they are SDA's.
Members of this church are advised to avoid red-meat.The argument here is that meat was never meant to be man's food as we were made to be pure vegetarians.
They also argue that since red-meat take at least 72 hours to be fully digested, it therefore exhausts the digestive system.Members who think must eat meat are advised to eat white-meat for instance fish and chicken. Soya-meat is also touted to replace meat.
Coffee/tea
These favorite drinks also find themselves in the list of banned foods by the SDA faith.
Due to their high contents of caffeine, members are also advised not to partake these beverages as it is alluded that they culminate to addiction, drowsiness if not used and also also blood pressure problems.
Wine/alcohol
The SDA church is also one among the many churches that discourages consumption of alcohol and wine even in the least quantities.
For their holy communion, they purchase preserved grapes, boil them to produce juice which is used in place of wine which other churches might be using.
Wine/alcohol here are considered as an adulterated drinks which after consumption makes one susceptible to sinning.
