Residents who prepare and sell food in open places in Kisii town have been warned and urged to observe hygiene as one of the keys ways of preventing disease outbreaks.
Speaking to this writer on Monday at Kisii town during a hygiene inspection, a clinical officer Mr. King'oina said that he had observed that most of the traders do not care about hygiene or the environment so long as they prepare meals and sell.
King’oina added that most of them use dirty water to prepare foods which can bring about diseases such as typhoid.
“Most of them use dirty water to prepare their food which they then they sell to innocent customers,” he confirmed.
In addition, he said that most places are exposed to the dirt from the surroundings which is likely to cause food contamination.
He has therefore urged them to observe hygiene and to also get permits for operating their businesses.
“These sellers should learn the proper ways of operating a healthy business from how they handle the food they prepare to how they treat their surrounding environment,” noted King'oina.
