The department of veterinary services in Nakuru county has imposed restrictions on the movement of animals following an outbreak of the foot and mouth disease in three sub-counties.

Nakuru county director of veterinary services Enos Amuyunzu said the affected sub-counties are Kuresoi South, Rongai, Nakuru East and parts of Gilgil.

"Unnecessary movement will not be allowed to avoid the spread of the disease. Herders should adhere to the restrictions for the sake of their animals," said Amuyunzu.

He said the department has started a vaccination campaign.

"Following the outbreak, we have fully embarked on a vaccination campaign to contain the situation," he added
