A section of Ford Kenya party leaders in Nyanza have declared that ODM party leader Raila Odinga should be given the Cord ticket to vie for the presidency in next year’s general election.
Led by Ford Kenya Nyanza branch Coordinator Jared Okello, the leaders said that Odinga is better placed to clinch the presidency, compared to Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Wednesday, Mr Okello said that Mr Odinga has been tried and tested in various leadership positions in this country, among them prime minister and he should therefore be given a chance to vie for the presidency.
“He is the best suited among the three Cord principals vying for the presidential ticket,” he said.
Odinga vied for the presidency in the 2013 polls on a Cord ticket and emerged second behind President Uhuru Kenyatta.
ODM, Ford Kenya and Wiper are the three major parties in the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy.
The leaders of the three parties have all trained their eyes on clinching the Cord presidential ticket ahead of next year’s polls.
