Nyanza Regional Ford Kenya party Coordinator Jared Okello has opposed the idea of zoning regions by Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) during the nominations.
Mr Okello said Cord is not a registered party and should not be used to create discomfort within the Coalition party.
“There is no way Cord is going to zone areas like Luo community for ODM, Western for Ford Kenya and Ukambani for Wiper. That is not acceptable and we will resist that move,” said Okello.
He said conducting a joint nomination in the Coalition will be going against the Political Parties Act.
"It will go against our laws in the country if Cord goes ahead in the nomination to zone regions. Party members will feel disillusioned,” he said.
He noted that zoning the regions a head of the nominations is undemocratic and should not be encouraged.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Thursday, Okello who has been unsuccessful in contesting Nyando constituency seat on Ford Kenya ticket said the Coalition will lose touch with the supporters if they insist on zoning.
He said the Coalition should only concentrate on coming up with a presidential candidate and allow for competition in various seats among the Coalition parties.
Okello said there is a sinister motive in pushing for the balkanization of regions a head of the party nominations.
“We will demand to be told by the proponents of zoning to give us reasons why they feel Cord must take that route,” he said.
