While one faction claiming to represent the party in Nyanza region said they were ready to throw their weight behind Raila, another one which claiming legitimacy as the party's representation in Kisumu County has distanced itself from those remarks.

Kisumu County Ford-K Chairman Gusto Oketch said no decision was made by Ford Kenya to support the ODM party leader as propagated by one Jared Okello who referred to himself as the Nyanza regional coordinator.

Oketch said they will remain behind their party leader Moses Wetangula in his quest to fly the flag of Cord in the next poll.

"Our party leader Wetangula remains our candidate until he will say otherwise," he said.

He asked Okello to join ODM if his interest is to have Raila as the Cord presidential candidate.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, he said Mr Okello had no mandate to make a decision on behalf of the party's Nyanza  supporters.

Last week Okello led a section of Ford Kenya delagates in backing Mr Odinga for the top seat, saying that he is better placed to clinch the presidency, compared to Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford Kenya's Wetangula.

Mr Okello said that Mr Odinga has been tried and tested in various leadership positions in this country, among them prime minister and he should therefore be given a chance to vie for the presidency.

"He is the best suited among the three Cord principals vying for the presidential ticket," he said.
