The Ford People party has launched massive registration campaigns in the Gusii region in an effort to capture majority seats in the 2017 general election. Speaking in Kisii town, Ford People party’s national chairman Henry Obwocha said the party is keen on capturing the Kisii County gubernatorial seat, adding that they are confident of forming the next Kisii County government. “We have started our recruitment exercise and we want ask the people of Gusii to register for membership in our party because we want their support to help us form the next county government of Kisii and bring development to the people of Kisii,” he said. Obwocha also revealed that the party has established a fund supported by aspirants that are vying on the party’s ticket that will help the party to conduct free and fair nominations and also assured those who will be seeking the party ticket that no one will be handpicked for a position. He urged Gusii leaders to unite under one party in order to foster the Gusii community’s bargaining power in the next government. Obwocha was in the company of party secretary general Albert Nyaundi, youth leader Steve Arika, treasurer Francis Kariuki and organising secretary Fred Nyaga, who called on their rivals not to underestimate the popularity of the party in the region.
