Thirty students from foreign countries have been deported for peddling drugs within the Kenyan Universities, Education Cabinet Secretary and Acting CS Internal Security Dr. Fred Matiang'i has revealed.
Speaking at a conference organized by the United Nations Office of Drug and Crime held at Windsor Hotel in Nairobi, Dr. Matiang'i noted that there increasing cases of students from foreign countries using their Education as a guise to peddle drugs within the country.
He said that he had ordered all University administrations to remain vigilant in the wake of the new discovery.
The conference brings together participants from Africa, America and Asia.
A global report by UN indicates an increase in the trafficking of cocaine, heroine and cannabis sativa.
The situation is reflected in Kenya where over 8,000 kgs of Cannabis was netted in 2016, the conference was informed.
It was noted that young people are increasingly taking into drugs, a situation that must be arrested fast.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has been in the forefront of fighting drugs whose demand is escalated within the country. He recently ordered the military to blow up a vessel which was suspected to ferry drugs in Mombasa.
