The Koriomat Forest evictees in Burnt Forest Uasin-Gishu have called upon the government to compensate them after they were evicted from the forest and were not resettled.

The evictees who paralysed transportation along Eldoret –Nairobi road said the ministry of devolution has not settled them after the government set aside the money intended for their resettlement.

The residents who are camping at the roadside said the beneficiaries had registered their names but so far they have not received a penny. They accuse local leaders of frustrating them.

“We had register our names so that we can be compensated but we are shocked that our names are misiing," said Caren Anyango.

According to the area residents, they claimed that the government under the department of special programmes wants to evict them from the place they are residing in.

Kesses MP James Bett said the residents were robbed of their rights and the government, through the relevant ministry, should ensure they compensate the victims who were evicted.

The legislator claimed that they have forwarded the residents grievances to the national government promising to follow it until justice prevails.
