Mr Ruto has made his intention known by traversing all corners of the country even with the recent discouraging remarks by nominated Senator Paul Njoroge and Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, who have allegedly insisted that Ruto's 2022 presidential bid is not automatic.

And on Tuesday, Mr Maroro claimed Ruto’s ambitions are unrealistic, saying he committed political suicide when he joined Jubilee.

“I have been in politics for a while and I think Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid is like a walk in the Sahara desert. It’s unrealistic and he knows that as well,” he said.

“Being on the Jubilee side may be the problem. Uhuru can be ready to support him but the burden remains the 'economic class' from the region that makes political decisions and I don’t see them supporting him. History is a teacher that we can’t dismiss,” he added.

He also questioned Mr Ruto’s strained relationship with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who he has been at loggerheads with in key political engagements.

“His ambitions could have been realistic if he stopped persistent jibes against Mr Odinga. That has been the undoing for him. Odinga has been proved to be flexible in supporting other candidates something which isn’t synonymous with the Mt Kenya side. It makes me conclude that he is wasting time,” he said.
