Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has dismissed President Uhuru Kenyatta's frequent visits to the region saying they will count for nothing during the August 8 polls.

Speaking at Mariakani on Thursday when he hosted the NASA brigade led by Raila Odinga, Kingi said the county is firmly in opposition."I want to tell the President that even if he makes 1000 trips to Kilifi, nothing will change as Kilifi is firmly in ODM and his frequent forays here will not change anything," said Kingi.Kingi accused the President of sabotaging the region's economy and riding on the projects which were initiated by the grand-coalition government as a campaign strategy to win the county's votes. On her part, Kilifi Women Representative Aisha Jumwa said the county has been neglected by the current regime, adding that it's hypocritical of the President to claim that he has the interests of the locals at heart. She asked the locals to embrace the NASA coalition arguing it is the only one which is able to liberate them from historical injustices. The President has shown an insatiable appetite to make inroads in the county which has over 600,000 registered voters, in a bid to get a chunk of the votes that could tilt the political scales in his favour.During his last visit in the county in May, he was jeered by the crowd over high cost of unga, an issue that he tactically evaded in his address.
