Nasa’s presidential bid launch in Kakamega on Saturday came with promises to the Western region, as the alliances seeks to consolidate the voter-rich area.
The alliance knows the region, which has close to 1.9 million registered voters, will be significant during the August polls, hence the need to ensure they get full support.
Thousands of jubilant supporters jammed the town from as early as 6am, as NASA leaders sent the Jubilee Party a strong message that the region was under their control.
The alliance’s flag-bearer Raila Odinga underlined the importance of having the launch at the stadium, saying significant historical meetings in Western Kenya were held at the grounds.
“I am delighted that our campaign launch is being held in Bukhungu. Our journey to State House and mission to send home Jubilee has officially kicked off,” said Raila.
The alliance promised to offer free primary and secondary education, in order to improve the education sector.
“Immediately I am declared winner, NASA’s free education commences in September for all schoolchildren,” he said.
He also promised to increase the monthly stipend for the elderly from Sh2,000 to Sh3,500 if elected as president.
He went on to lash at the Jubilee government, saying they have done little for kenyans during their first term in office.
He promised to address key issues that have dogged the current regime, among them runaway corruption, insecurity, unemployment and the high cost of living.
“Kenyans are suffering due to the high cost of living and I promise that my government will address it within 90 days from the moment we take over. As NASA, we promise what we can deliver not like Jubilee who are busy giving new promises yet they have not fulfilled old ones,” said Raila.
They took time to also launch an investment blue print, which he said will help to spur growth in different sectors in the Western region.
“This booklet contains what NASA will do in education, health, agriculture and infrastructure when we win in August. This investment plan once implemented will boost the economy of Western,” he said.
