The Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale has said leaders from Mount Kenya region should not expect to get the Presidency in 2022.
He said Deputy President William Ruto will take the mantle to lead the country after President Uhuru Kenyatta serving for his second term.
Speaking at Gathuthi-ini in Kirinyaga County, Duale said the Central region should throw their weight behind Ruto in 2022 for supporting the President for two terms.
"DP Ruto sacrificed to ensure that President Uhuru took over power in 2013 and is ready to do the same in 2017. Leaders from this region should reciprocate and support him once Uhuru leaves office," said Duale.
Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi, who had accompanied Duale, said the region will not vote for anybody else apart from Ruto.
"We have a deal and it must be sealed in 2022. We should not be too greedy to lead," said Murungi.
Some political pundits have been alleging that former Presidential hopeful Peter Kenneth is part of a plan to sabotage Ruto’s ambitions in 2022.
This is after declaring he is supporting Uhuru's re-election in next year's polls and indicating he will vie for Nairobi governor's seat.
