Deputy President William Ruto castigated Mombasa governor, Ali Hassan Joho, after he branded himself Sultan.
The phrase has been used severally, during campaign rallies nationwide, each time he is introduced to the crowd, for an address.
According to Suna East MP, and ODM Director of Elections, Junet Muhammed, Joho is called Sultan because of his good work and support in the Coast reagion.
However, during Jubilee campaign tour of Mombasa county, Wednesday, Ruto lashed out at Joho, saying his 'Sultan' was long gone, and he was nolonger one.
He said tittles such Sultan should have been dropped once Kenya attained independence since, they were people who looked down at Kenyans, besides using them as slaves.
"He should forget the Sultan thing. Kenya has no Sultan. Sultan ended during colonialism. Instead of working for the people, he is calling himself Sultan and criticing everything Jubilee government does. Tell him he's fake Sultan," Ruto said.
Ruto further asked him to go to school and educate himself, and gain knowledge, on how best to be a leader, since Jubilee government had made education 'free' for all.
Joho who is a strong Jubilee critic, has been on the receiving end, after the government sued him of allegedly forging academic papers to vie in 2013 general elections.
