A form 3 student at Materi Girls School in Tharaka Nithi County is the newly appointed environment ambassador.

Hilda Gacheri Bundi was appointed by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) following the ban of plastic bags.

She creatively came up with an alternative paper bad made out of banana bark and leaves which saw her rise to fame.

In addition to her appointment she will be meeting with Ministry Environment and Natural Resources CS Prof. Judi Wakhungu.

After pictures of her went viral on social media many Kenyans vowed to support her in various ways.

She even earned the title ‘Wangari Maathai in the making’.

The form 3 pupil was simply going about her business when someone took pictures of her and posted them to the internet making her an internet sensation.
