According to the area Member of parliament Richard Tong’i, farming has been key to Gusii land and there was a need for the farming activities to be taken to the next level and that that can be easily achieved if the farmers form groups.

While addressing agricultural officers in Keumbu at Richard Tong'i Multipurpose hall on Sunday the legislator said that it was through groups that many farmers across the country have benefited from the subsidised farm inputs to boost agricultural production.

“With groups you will easily receive loans unlike when you are alone and most of the farmers can improve their livelihoods through this,” he added.

He emphasized that farmers should grow certified seeds favorable to their respective regions and those that do not require long rains to flourish.

He called upon the county government to ensure they set a budget aside for enlightening farmers on the importance of forming groups and on how they can benefit from government funds.
