Youths, Women and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) in Kiambu have been urged to form groups in order to access loans being provided by the national and county governments.
Speaking at Kiambu town on Thursday, chairman of a lobby group called ‘Uhuru Mashinani’ John Wainaina said that funds will be availed to youths, women and PLWD if they form groups.
He said that the both the county and the national government have set aside enough funds to empower the groups.
“We want to encourage young people and women to form groups and apply for development funds,” he said.
The chairman further asked the groups to come up with realistic ideas that will help them get funds to start business enterprises.
He observed that most young people are not willing to apply for the funds which he said are lying idle in banks.
Wainaina, however, said that there is need to create awareness about the funds that are being given by the governments.
He indicated that majority of young people and women in remote areas of the county are not aware of the opportunities.
The chairman said that his organisation conducts special workshops to enlighten the youths, women and persons with disabilities about the development funds.
H said that the funds being provided to empower young people will help reduce employment and enhance development.
