Women in Kisii Central Sub-County have been urged to form and register groups in order to benefit from the Women Enterprise Fund.
Speaking when he met a group of women on Sunday evening Nyaribari Chache member of parliament Richard Tong’i said this financial year the Sub-County had received Sh6 Million for the first quarter and only a few groups benefited from it.
“The last time I checked the area had only 246 registered groups and I would like to see all women ensure that they are in a registered group that will see them empower themselves economically,” he added.
The legislator called upon all fund officials and elected leaders to ensure that they spearhead the forming of groups and also embark on massive campaigns and sensitisation programs at the grassroots level with an aim of bringing more women on board.
“The funds have improved living standard of not only women who are the sole beneficiary but also their families,” he added.
The Mp added that women comprise 52 percent of the Country’s population hence empowering them to be economically independent will lead to the development of the nation hence enabling them to participate in key decision-making.
