Form One students will report to school on January 9

This is according to a directive issued by Education CS Fred Matiang'i to the Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) requiring it to supply schools with book materials before learning begins on the said date.

Matiang'i is implementing a policy shift to procure teaching and learning materials from the government instead of sending the funds to schools directly.

“Our interest should be to ensure our children acquire quality education. We must be responsible for the education of our children to make sure they benefit from the new book policy. Every school must ensure a one to one book ratio is achieved for every learner,” Matiang'i said on Wednesday while giving the dates.

“We have changed our business model of doing things. We will directly deal with publishers to supply books to schools. We don't want a situation where cartels exploit our children. The only thing we need is to see books in the hands of our children,” he added.
