A 14 year old student was on Sunday electrocuted at Kenyoro Village, Emesa sub-location, Nyakembene location, Gucha South sub-location, Kisii County.

The Form One student at Nyamonaria Secondary School is suspected to have stepped on power lines lying across a footpath leading to his home.

According to Kisii County Police Commander Ms Agnes Mudambi, the boy’s grandfather Mr Jeremiah Kibari reported the incident at around 5.00 p.m. last evening.

“Mr Kibari called us with the news that his grandson had been found lying unconscious on the footpath next to his home where some power lines had fallen due to heavy rains the previous night,” said Ms Mudambi.

Together with the other good Samaritans, he rushed the boy to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where he died two hours later while receiving treatment.

The body is at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem.

Ms Mudambi called on county residents to be careful when passing through areas with fallen power lines.

“Do not step on fallen power lines, however harmless they may appear, since they could still be live and cause death or serious injuries to victims,” she said.
