Nakuru County women have been urged to form cooperative societies to uplift their livelihoods.

Monicah Njue an official from Gatara Sacco, based in Nakuru, said the movements are very important and will increases the chances of women acquiring loans from the Sacco, hence improving the living standards in the community.

Njue said the Sacco is registering community based organizations run by women, with an aim of giving out loans especially to those living in poverty.

"We are targeting women who live under extreme poverty in slum areas of Nakuru,” said Njue

Njue was speaking in Ronda village during a women meeting held by the Sacco, further urging women to be more aggressive in participating towards community development, to pull their community from poverty.

"I want to urge you to be more aggressive in communal development to fight poverty, if we form these groups and get loans, we will develop as a whole,” she said.

She further noted that women are vulnerable to communal problems, hence the need to come together to support each other by forming organizations.

During the meeting, a total of eight groups registered with the Sacco.
