The dissolution of the CORD and JUBILEE coalitions into single parties will help in ending tribalism in this country, an MP has said.
Speaking at a press briefing in Nakuru town this morning, Nakuru East MP David Gikaria says that the country will be more united under two major national parties.
He said that current political parties are based on tribal inclinations, something he said has created more ethnic animosity and hatred among Kenyans.
Gikaria said it will be good for the country’s politics if we had two parties like in the US.
“I am very happy that the two big coalitions in the country have realised the need of forming national parties and moving away from regional and tribal parties because that is the only way we can transform this country from being an ethnic dived country to a united country,” said Gikaria.
The MP said that if the country gets two major political parties then Kenyans will have an opportunity to choose which party to join regardless of their tribe or region.
“In the existence of Cord and the Jubilee Alliance Party, the country will be more peaceful and our politics will have a lot of discipline because Kenyans will no longer join a party based on their tribe,” he said.
Gikaria added that the move should be supported by all smaller parties which he said should dissolve and join the tow big parties.
“The hundreds of parties we have in this country should be dissolved before the next general election so that by the time we go to the 2017 elections the country will only have two parties which will be even less costly for the IEBC to run and conduct the elections,” he concluded.
