The Kakamega Senatorial race is likely to take a different twist after former AFC Leopards chairman Sammy Aina Washiko declared interest in the seat. Aina, an ICT entrepreneur, will be seeking to replace Senator Boni Khalwale who has joined the race to unseat Governor Wycliffe Oparanya. Aina, who will be contesting on a Ford Kenya ticket, thanked his party boss Moses Wetangula for allowing youth to take part in politics.“I must thank the party leader Moses Wetang’ula for giving the youth a realistic chance to make a shot at leadership. I have been a revolutionist and youth agenda has always been my focus,” said Aina, as quoted by the Nation. The aspirant also said he has turned down calls by a section of leaders who want him to drop out of the race, adding that he will be on the ballot on August 8.“My opponents have been saying that I have quit the race but I want to assure my supporters that here I am and fully in the race under Ford Kenya and let them not believe any rumours authored by my competitors,” he said.
