Retired athletes from the North Rift have decried increasing cases of doping among Kenyan athletes. Speaking in Eldoret led by the retired athlete and former MP for Chesumei Elijah Lagat, they said there is need to educate upcoming athletes on the same, noting that the country has lost many good athletes due to doping.Lagat said times have changed and athletes should impress education to catch up with changing times. Last year, Olympic marathon winner Jemima Sumgong was banned for four years after she was found guilty of doping. The 32-year-old athlete tested positive for EPO which is used to boost the production of red blood cells and oxygen flow in the body.Sumgong, who is the first Kenyan woman to win the Olympic gold medal in the marathon will not defend her title at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
