Kenyan female boxing icon Congestina Achieng has been discharged from a Kisumu hospital.
Achieng famously known as Conje was discharged from the Kisumu County Hospital on Monday, after undergoing treatment at the facility for over a month.
She was taken to the hospital by a well-wisher, Winny Ogolla, on October 25, this year, after being unwell for some time.
“I thank everybody who helped in my recovery,” said Conje.
Her sentiments were reechoed by her mother Getrude Auma Adala.
She was discharged after Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization Kisumu County branch Chairperson Atieno Otieno cleared her Sh20,000 hospital bill.
“Conjestina has been sick for over six years and we appreciate many people who have always helped her. We have realized that for Conjestina to be fine, we need to constantly walk with her. I and my friends from the legal profession and MYWO are walking with her and her son so that she goes through this difficult time in her life,” she said.
She said they are planning to build a recreation centre in Kisumu and name it after Conjestina Achieng.
