Former Cabinet Minister Ndolo Ayah is dead.
The veteran politician died on Wednesday at Agha Khan Hospital, Nairobi.
The former Kisumu Rural Member of Parliament died at age 84 after a short illness members of his family said.
The late Ayah served as Minister for Research, Science and Technology in the 1980s before serving as Minister for Foreign Affairs in the 1990s during the Kanu regime.
Ayah represented the people of Seme in the national government between 1969 to 1974.
Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma described the death as a blow to the county, adding that Kisumu people are mourning his death.
"It is with deep sorrow that I have received the death of former Cabinet Minister Mr Wilson Ndolo Ayah who passed on today. Ayah's death is not only a big blow to his family but also to the entire country, especially the people of Kisumu County whom he served with commitment and dedication as an MP and a Cabinet Minister," wrote the governor in his condolence message.
The message proceeded: "At this difficult time of mourning, I wish to convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Ayah's family, relatives and friends alongside the people of Kisumu County whom he served diligently.
"May God rest his soul in eternal peace."
