Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria, has distributed Uwezo Fund cheque worth Sh400,000 and bricks making machine to a group of former chang'aa brewers and addicts in Githunguchu location.
Speaking on Monday, Githunguchu Anti-Chang'aa and Drug Abuse, leader Thomas Kamau said that they had started to loose hope after many false promises from leaders.
“Since the time we stopped abusing alcohol and drugs three years ago we have been promised a lot by leaders but no one of them has fulfilled his promise. But today we are happy that our MP has remembered us,” said Kamau.
He said the money will help them to boost the small business they undertake.
"This gives us hope for a better tomorrow. Seven members of this group have committed suicide but from now we are hopeful,” notes Kamau.
Area chief Peter Ng'ang'a who is behind the formation of the group is a happy man to see his efforts has finally borne fruits.
"We started this group in 2012 after witnessing the troubles most men in the area were passing through,” said Ng'ang'a.
Ng'ang'a says that their aim was to look for a way to generate revenue.
“We will now sit down again together and forge the way forward for this group. We are indeed very delighted", said Ng'ang'a.
