A former Githiga Ward councillor has urged the county to construct a polytechnic to absorb the increasing population of ‘o’ level students who do not join university every year.
Andrew Mwangi, says that acquisition of skills among the youths would be the lasting solution to the challenges facing them. Mwangi who was addressing his supporters at Githiga said that unless higher education is improved, the area would witness a huge wastage of intellectual power.
“I urge the county government to put up a polytechnic that will answer the challenges affecting our youth. I will help equip the polytechnic with the latest equipment,” said Mwangi.
He said that the technical institution would provide solutions to some of the problems being experienced by the youth in the area.
“We expect the graduates to be self-employed and create opportunities for other youths. The polytechnic can offer research for solutions to the immediate problems facing the residents of Kiambu County,” said Mwangi.
He added that such an institution will help improve infrastructure, health and security.
