More than 300 former councillors in Nakuru County have urged MPs to back the bill recommending a Sh18 billion gratuity payment. The recommendation was last year passed by the Senate Labour Committee and it is now waiting to be tabled in the National Assembly.Led by Nakuru branch committee Chairman Samson Mwirigi, the former ward representatives appealed to the legislators to ensure the award is effected."We have waited up to date for our retirement package and nothing has happened. The MPs should make sure our living standards are improved," Mwirigi said."We deserve to be paid after suffering for long without pension," he added.More than 12,000 former officials of the defunct local councils across the country are asking for a Sh1.5 million lump-sum payment and a Sh30,000 monthly stipend.
